Marti Rideout LPM ScholarshipMarti Rideout was active in LPM since its inception in 1991, as a course writer for the syllabus Resources for Effective Music Ministry, member of the LPM Board, national LPM Consultant-Coordinator, coordinator and teacher for the Northern Virginia LPM, teacher in the Washington D.C. and Vermont programs, and national conference leader. She earned degrees in organ performance from Ithaca College and Catholic University, served churches in the metropolitan D.C. area from 1970-1999, then served in interim and part-time ministries, ending with St. John’s Lafayette Square in Washington D.C. (2001-2005). Marti served Virginia Theological Seminary for four years during the August Term as an Adjunct Instructor for Oral Interpretation of Scripture, substitute Chapel Organist, and Adjunct Instructor of Music and Seminary Chapel Organist during the 2005 Spring Term. Since moving to Columbus, Ohio in 2005, Marti continues her vocation as a freelance church musician, church music consultant and workshop presenter on topics of church music and spirituality. Now retired from the LPM board, this scholarship was created to honor Marti’s unique contributions to LPM.
Linda Gamertsfelder is the recipient of the Marti Rideout scholarship for 2008-2009. She is a student in the East & Central Texas-Louisiana LPM program. Congratulations, Linda!
FAQs about the scholarship:Who may apply? Any local LPM program students may apply regardless of gender, location, church affiliation, etc. in financial need up to 1/3 of the cost of LPM tuition for the year’s program. It is strongly suggested that student tuition costs be paid as follows: 1/3 from the student; 1/3 from the student’s church; 1/3 from scholarship. Scholarships will be paid directly to the local LPM coordinator (not the student). How many scholarships will be granted? Disbursement of scholarship funds depends on the funds available that year. No promise is made in advance as to the possible amount of the scholarship. The scholarship is awarded for use in the student’s first year in LPM. Preference is shown for students desiring to remain in LPM for the complete two-year program and receive the LPM certificate at the successful completion of all requirements. Students must reapply for the second year’s scholarship, which will require a confirming letter from the local LPM coordinator, and should include verification of the student’s successful completion of first-year requirements. What is the deadline for application? Completed applications with supporting documents must be received no later than June 1. When will I know if I will receive a scholarship? You will receive written notification by July 15. Who makes the decision about the scholarship awards? The National LPM Board. Can I apply later if I don’t get a scholarship? Yes. Are there requirements other than this application form? Yes. 1. You must include the form included with the application signed by your local LPM coordinator which will verify your participation in the local LPM program, tell the board about the fees being charged for the program, and contact information for the local coordinator. See form included with the application. Completed application form (along with letter(s) of recommendation) should be sent to the address below. Questions may also be addressed to the same.
